It all began me eating a good breakfast at Denny's and gassing up before heading to Corona Arch and Canyonlands.
Corona Arch is incredible. I saw a person jumping off of the arch, and apparently someone did skylinning. Didn't take many photos with my phone, but I'll have more photos from my camera when I can load them up.
After Corona Arch I made my way to Canyonlands Nat'l park via long Canyon Rd. This road seemed doable until it got really rocky, sandy, and steep. I was trapped. Didn't know what to do, and if I stopped I would have trouble starting up again. So it got scary, and my bike and I went down. I was almost out of water and exhausted. After about 10 min of resting I tried lifting the bike and finally got it up on the steep road. By this point I was trapped. Out of water and no food. I thought my life was done.
Well, it isn't since I'm writing this to you. One car drove by and gave me a bottle water. They couldn't do much other than that. The next group of maybe 5 Jeeps came by and this was truly unspeakable to what they did. About 5 guys got my bike up some of the steepest part of the trail because I told them I couldn't move it because it was that hard. Yes, 5 guys who got my bike up. One guy on the seat and the others balancing it and pushing on the rack. After they got my bike up, one guy gave me a ride in his Jeep back up the canyon to where my bike was brought by the 5 or so guys. I was very exhausted and out of it, and I'm so thankful they got me out of the trap I was in. Not only did they do that, they also gave me Gatorade, water, and apples. It was hard for me to get through this... I cried after they left and I couldn't say thank you enough. I hope to hear from them because they literally saved my life without a penny involved.
Two things to take away:
1. Be extra cautious even if you think you can do something and someone else says its okay.
2. There are good people in this world and if someone needs help give them a hand. On my trip this isn't the first, but one of the most significant times I needed it the most.
Happy to be sleeping in my tent tonight with my bike beside me rather than somewhere else.
.
I ended up not going to Canyonlands... Just wanted to get back to camp.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you. I would have just chilled. Lying under the stars in the wilderness must be an awesome experience. My heart and prayers are with u.
DeleteSuch beautiful country so dangerous though. You have been having "ANGELS" help you along the way. You are truly blessed. I'm so glad u r ok. That must have been a real scary experience. I would've freaked. Which wouldn't have helped. God is there for you. I hope the rest of your journey is calm and peaceful. Love u.
ReplyDeleteJimmy, it's good to see you made it out ok. When we came upon you in that canyon, you were done. We could see that. We are a group of friends from UT & CA just traveling through southern UT for a few days together. We rented jeeps for the day and I'm glad we came upon you when we did. We will enjoy filling you through your trip going forward. We took a few pictures if you want to remember how bad the road was.

Jimmy's Mom here. I want thank you Doug and all the (rental Jeep Guys) for taking the time & energy to get my son out of a really bad sitution. Good deeds never go forgotten! You guys are awesome and words can not express our gratitude! Thanks Again.:)
DeleteIt's wonderful to hear back from someone in the group. You are right, I was totally drained. Right before you came I was thinking of how I was going to get up the cliff because I knew from one couple who gave me a water, said it gotten level just around the corner. I knew if i didn't get help I either leave bike and hike, chance riding my bike up, or stay put which I knew I couldn't for long if I wanted to live.Going back down wasn't an option because it was too dangerous. Like I said earlier, I was in a trap that I don't know how I got myself into. I had thought of making a ramp, but before I even got the bike going again I heard a rumble of Jeeps. I was so happy to see a group of you, but not just any group, it was a whole crew of people working together which is truly amazing. I remember one guy in your group up front said, "your almost up". I told him, "I'm done." I was tired, weak, and thoughtless. I felt comfortable after one of the girls said while I was lying in the back of the the Jeep, "you have the right guys helping you". Anyways, thank you so much for what you did for me so I could continue on my journey, and without a wonderful group you were I may not be here,my bike may not be here, or both. This will be something to remember forever, which allows me to think a differently about others, life, and faith. Please feel free to share the pictures with me. You may use the contact form on the right hand side of the home page to send them. I'll also send an email to request them.
